When you want to attach new fishing line to your reel, you must tie the correct knot. If you do not do this, the line will release itself during the winding process and cause it to get tangled. Arbor Knot is used to attach and secure the fishing line to the shaft of the fishing reel. It is also useful for attaching the support to the reel for larger fish.
How to Tie an Arbor Knot?
Pass the line around the arbor.
With the free end, tie an overhand knot around the line.
Then tie a second overhand knot a few inches away from the free end to act as a stopper.
Finally, slide the knots tightly against the trellis. The second overhand knot prevents the rope from slipping through the first.
Arbor Knot Advantages
The Reel Tie (Canadian Jam Knot) is simple, easy to learn and effective.
It does not slip when winding the fishing line onto the reel.
A good choice for fluorocarbon and monofilament lines.
Arbor Knot Disadvantages
Can only be used with braided superlines or unfilaments if the spool is non-slip and ready for braiding.

Arbor Knot Variations
To increase friction on well-polished reels, some anglers wrap the line around the trellis 2-3 times before tying the first knot. The rope should be rotated as if tying a knot without tension, that is, the windings should be tightened as the arbor is rotated.
