Nowadays, Surf Casting technique is done not only for fishing but also as a sport. If the material selection for the long shooting technique is made appropriately, our hunting chances increase. We will have a successful and enjoyable day.
Surf Casting Rod Selection
The throw value of the surf fishing pole depends on the region where the fishing will be done. Choose a rod in the range of how many grams of lead are generally used in the hunting area. The correct range will provide an easy and long shooting distance.
Carbon surf rods of Shimano, Daiwa, Okuma, Tica, Ryobi, Italcanna, Spro, Lineaeffe brands are high quality and successful rods that you can choose. The machines used in these rods are special and different from others. The feature of these machines is that the winding head is wide. The wide head ensures maximum line release with minimum friction while casting the fishing rod. In some models, machine heads may be conical. In general, surf machines are produced in the form of a front drag.
Small size spinning reel machines are used for reeds that do not have a machine slot. These machines are mounted on the reed with the help of clamps. In this type of system, the fishing line is held with the thumb while casting.
Surf Casting Machine Selection
When choosing a surfing machine, attention should be paid to the amount of line it will take, the number of revolutions and balls. If you buy a machine suitable for the ring size of your rod, it will allow you to unload the line more easily during your casts.
Surf fishing machine is selected from sizes 45 and above. Generally, machines with 50-60 and 70 head sizes are preferred. Since the reel structure is different, the fishing line capacity of surf machines is lower than other machines. Since the surf reel is shallow, it does not take as much line as it seems. For example, Shimano 4500 surf machine should not be confused with 45 spin machines.
The turnover of surf fishing machines is generally low. Since the reels are wide, they can wrap more line in one turn. It may have speeds such as 3.4:1- 3.9:1 for easy line winding.
The features that distinguish the Surf Casting machine from other machines are:
Very wide winding head and fishing line spreading surface.
Low speed and powerful winding system.
Long winding arm.
Robust internal mechanism.
Surf Casting Bait Selection
You can get good results when surf fishing by using easily available baits such as shrimp, mullet and squid. Generally, shrimp is used, but there is a possibility that it may come off the hook and fall off. Mullet and squid can stay on the hook for a long time, but they do not attract the attention of fish species as much as shrimp. Feed selection and efficiency vary by region and season. You can gain experience in this regard over time by observing other fishermen.
Using Bait Rope and Bait Skewer
It is difficult for the bait to stay on the hook during surf casting. Thanks to the strong and thin elastic bait threads, you can securely fix the bait to the needle. In this way, the bait does not fall off the needle while shooting and your hunting chances do not decrease. The feed rope is nature-friendly and organic. It dissolves in water over time and does not harm nature. It is an equipment that every fisherman should have.
The purpose of using the bait needle is to maintain the form of the bait while traveling long distances and to ensure that it remains intact in the needle.
Surf Casting Fishing Line Selection
The fishing line must be extremely strong in terms of both weight and carrying the fish. The line should not break while shooting or catching fish. Braided fishing lines are preferred by many surf anglers thanks to their durability. It can be used in normal fishing reels as well as in spinning reels. It can be used easily in fresh and salt water, but to ensure long life, it is necessary to wash it with fresh water after using it in salt water. Since braided lines do not stretch, even the slightest fish strike can be easily felt. It can be used for all hunts, especially strong and large fish. Braided fishing lines have advantages as well as disadvantages. They can get tangled and become knots very quickly. Since they have a braided structure, they do not unravel easily like other fishing lines. Additionally, braided fishing line prices are very high in our country. We see different types of braided fishing lines from many brands on the market and we are quite indecisive. When you decide to buy braided fishing line, you can make a comfortable choice by considering the following criteria.
1- Which type of fish will be used
The type of fish we will catch is one of the most important factors in choosing braided fishing line. The size, strength and strength of the fish are very important. For example; When fishing for pike, we should choose a thin and high tensile braided line so that we can easily throw our lure or bait to distant places.
2- Which Feed System Will Be Used
If we are going to hunt with fake bait, we should choose thin braided fishing line. If we are going to use a bottom fishing line, that is, a baited fishing line, we should choose thick braided fishing line so that it does not break due to the stony nature of the ground.
Surf Casting Team Preparation and Body Binding
Pater Noster: It is known as the sea bass team in our country. It is a system with very high success in sea hunting.
Materials Required for Sea Bass Set
Single Rigging Sleeves - Wire Pipe: It is not preferred as it is thought to cut the fishing line. If you can't find it, you can use a stopper.
Two Way Clear Beads: Known as beads.
Smallest dark colored swivel you can find.
Elastic bait rope.
Lead clip.
While preparing this body that we will use for Surf Casting hunting, keeping the needle intervals long will increase your hunting chances. Tie the lead clip to one end of the body. Tie a triple knot 20 - 25 cm above the clip, but without tightening, we pass the elastic fishing line through it and minimize the possibility of the knot cutting itself. We tighten the knot and cut off the remaining parts. The purpose of this knot is to ensure that the needle body remains fixed in the main body. We make a sequence in the form of beads, swivels, beads and tie knots again. If we want to add a second needle, we repeat the process wherever we want it to be on the body. Lastly, we tie the swivel and finish tying the body. When you do these operations, you can use a small drop of super glue to prevent the knots from slipping.
