The Uni Knot was invented by Norman Duncan and is also known as the Duncan Loop Knot and the Grinner Knot. When used to join two lines it is known as a Double Grinner or Double Uni Knot. As described by Vic Dunaway, it is a versatile knot. We can also say that it is a single knot suitable for all kinds of needs. It is very simple to connect and its pulling value is quite high. How to Tie a Uni Knot?

  1. Put the end of the fishing line through the eye of the hook and make it parallel to the other rope.

  2. Hold the folded fishing line at a point close to the needle. Turn the free end and turn it into a ring.

  3. Wrap the end of the fishing line around the double layer of fishing line 5 times.

  4. Wet the fishing line and slowly pull the end to complete the knot.

  5. Slide the knot into the hole the desired amount.

Uni Knot Tips

  • It saves you time while untying knots. If a knot is noticed, you do not need to re-tie the knot. You can open the knot by sliding it.

  • More winding of the rope increases and further improves the breaking resistance of the knot.

  • Great for fishing with a heavy jig on lines tied to braid or fluorocarbon.

  • It can be used easily on both slippery ropes and fishing line. As the rope becomes thinner or slippery, the number of turns is increased.
