Salmon, which is a fish species that can live in fresh water and seas and is famous for its long-distance migrations, is also known as salmon. It has a predatory and agile structure. Eats small fish. Salmon body is long and slightly flattened from the sides. Behind the dorsal fin is a spineless oil fin. His head is free. Its color changes according to age and feeding area. The back is gray and blue, the sides are silver. Small black spots on its body, and male salmon have red spots on the sides. The length of the salmon is 1 meter and the weight is between 9-15 kilograms.


Where Do Salmon Live? Salmon Migration.

Salmon live in large flocks in temperate seas, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. It goes to the inner parts of the rivers in flocks to spawn in the spring season. During this period, its color darkens. Red spots appear on the sides of its body and on the gill covers. In shallow areas with sand and gravel, female salmon dig burrows to spawn. Males fertilize the eggs by depositing their sperm on the eggs.


Salmon eggs hatch after 5-6 months, in April-May. The hatchlings are initially similar to trout. In about two years, the weight of the offspring increases 30-40 times, their length reaches 15 - 20 cm. At this stage, juvenile salmon, which begin to look like adult salmon, spend their first year in the river. Fish that have survived the growth phase continue their development by feeding when they reach the sea. Salmon fish that have reached the breeding season return to the place where they were born in order to spawn. Salmon migration upstream is not easy and many die in the process.

Types of Salmon

Among the salmon species, Atlantic Salmon and Pacific Salmon are the most common. There are also pink, silver, scarlet, ironhead, dog and king salmon varieties. The "King Salmon" species living in the Pacific Ocean is the largest salmon species with a length of 1.5 - 2 meters and a weight of up to 50 kilograms.


How to Cook Salmon?

There are many ways to cook salmon, but one of the most popular and easy ways is to cook it in the oven. Here's how to cook salmon:


Baked Salmon Recipe:

Materials:

  • Salmon fillet (with or without skin, as desired)

  • Olive oil

  • Salt

  • Black pepper

  • lemon slices

  • Optional spices and herbs (e.g. garlic, rosemary, thyme, dill)

Method:

  • First, start heating the oven to 200°C (400°F).

  • Clean the salmon fillet and dry the excess water gently with a paper towel.

  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper or lightly grease your tray with olive oil.

  • Place the salmon fillet on the baking tray. If using a skinned fillet, place it skin-side down.

  • Drizzle some olive oil over the salmon. Flavour with salt and blackpepper. Optionally, you can add other spices and herbs.

  • Place the lemon slices on the salmon.

  • Put in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes. Depending on the thickness of the salmon, the cooking time may vary. The inside of the salmon should be slightly pink and crumbling.

  • Remove from oven and let rest for 1-2 minutes. Then you can serve.
